(Toronto, Friday, November 11) As you may recall, on May 17, 2006, the night when Canadian Armed Forces Captain Nichola Goddard became the first Canadian female combat soldier to be killed in combat since World War II, Michelle was at the same CAF base camp in Kandahar, Afghanistan, entertaining the troops. Two days later, she attended Captain Goddard’s ramp ceremony.

Two years ago, around Remembrance Day, Michelle travelled to Charlottetown, PE, to perform at a concert there to benefit Light Up Papua New Guinea, a project in honour of Captain Goddard. In addition to her musical performances at that concert, Michelle surprised the audience by reciting a poem composed in Captain Goddard’s honour (the first poem Michelle has ever written). Talking about the poem, Michelle relates, “As a result of this invitation to perform in honour of Captain Goddard, I started to reflect upon my experience of being in a war zone when a soldier serving her country lost her life … and the words just poured out.” Michelle presented the original manuscript of the poem to Nichola’s parents, Tim and Sally Goddard.

(Nashville, November 10, 2011) This past Tuesday, Michelle visited her friends Laura Mary Clarke and Julian Chojnacki over at Take 8 Films on 17th Avenue in Nashville to guest on their “un-jammed. raw & real on the row” show and shoot a video of Michelle’s Top Ten hit, I Surrender.

Julian and Laura have a fresh, interesting concept for their show. Live video, live audio, live vocals, one camera, one take, no editing, no autotune, etc., hence the term “raw & real.”

(September 16, 2011) This past Sunday, September 11, the Canadian Country Music Association honoured its 2011 Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame inductees at a special gala dinner and award ceremony. Michelle, this year’s Artist inductee, was recognized for her outstanding contributions to Canada’s country music landscape. Bill Langstroth, the host of one of Canada’s first talent showcases, “Singalong Jubilee,” had his outstanding achievements in television production celebrated in the Industry Builder category.

Michelle’s ceremony included an induction speech from Brian Ferriman, her manager of  26 years, and a delightful acceptance speech from Michelle. The two speeches bookended a surprise musical tribute to Michelle with Terri Clark singing “Take It Like A Man,” Victoria Banks singing “Nobody’s Girl” and Katie Love Hess singing “Safe In The Arms of Love.” Michelle was totally surprised and moved by the tribute, which featured the three vocalists, a full band and six string players.

Michelle has drawn rave reviews for her powerful voice for the last two decades. Selling nearly two million albums in North America and enjoying an international career, she is the first Canadian artist in the modern era of country music to have a Top Ten hit in America (Take It Like A Man, 1992) and a Number One video on CMT-USA.

“What a tremendous honour. I deeply appreciate this recognition and am so very proud to have had the opportunity to represent Canada across the globe through my music,” said Michelle of her induction. “I have been blessed, and continue to be blessed, with a wonderful career. My thanks go out to the CCMA, my fans and industry friends, Brian Ferriman (my manager of more than 25 years), my outstanding team, and my husband, Marco, for helping make this recognition possible.”

After their induction, Michelle and Bill will soon have their official plaques displayed at the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame located in Merritt, BC. They will also be acknowledged within the collections of the National Music Centre, which is to be opened in Calgary, AB in 2014.
